Tom is currently undertaking his MSci Computer Science (Information Security) at Royal Holloway, University of London. This summer, he has been working for Information Security Group (ISG) researching cybersecurity in broadcasting. In particular, Tom has focused his research on the newfound potential for 5G cellular communications as a means for broadcasting video and content delivery. The potential risks to the broadcasting industry and 5G infrastructure which Tom has identified include content piracy and denial-of-service attacks. Tom is now in the process of creating a media centre which will be installed on a virtual machine which runs on the cloud using OpenStack. This media centre will be used as a means of simulating the software-defined networks that 5G is built around. Once this is complete, Tom will run security tests through the centre to test its vulnerability.
