The ISG/ Smart Card Centre (SCC) is proud to be selected as the host of the 6th Workshop in Information Security Theory and Practices (WISTP 2012). The event will be held in June 19-22 in Royal Holloway. The ISG Smart Card Centre (SCC) played a pivotal role (along with colleagues from France, Belgium and Greece) in bringing this workshop into existence. The workshop’s steering committee has managed to make this event successful, recognised and equally important an event that bridges theory and practice in the field of Information Security. It is a testimony to this success that every year the conference presents a strong academic programme, the publisher for the conference proceedings is Springer and the event’s programme committee along with the invited speakers are drawn from international experts in the field. The ISG Smart Card Centre and the UK Cards AssociationThe ISG is delighted to announce a research collaboration between The UK Cards Association and the Information Security Group Smart Card Centre (SCC) at Royal Holloway, University of London. The UK Cards Association has become a Member of the SCC and committed significant funding to the core research programme for, at least, the next three years. The collaboration is by no means just about funding as The UK Cards Association is the UK’s card payments industry voice on a wide range of topics and it has a plethora of expertise and influence. The work aims to provide the opportunity for interested parties to be forewarned and better informed of practical attack scenarios that may affect card payment systems.
On the new collaboration, Dr. Konstantinos Markantonakis of the SCC, said:
“The research collaboration with The UK Cards Association is very exciting and it really comes at the right moment. The UK Cards Association brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge into the real world information security problems faced by the UK card payment industry. Orange has become a Member of the SCC and committed significant funding to the core research programme for at least the next three years. Orange will also be the main sponsor of the SCC Open Day exhibition on the 6th September 2011. The collaboration is by no means just about funding as Orange Labs has a wealth of expertise and influence, and is already providing expert lecturers for the SCC MSc module as well as suggesting MSc projects and offering student internships. Dr Keith Mayes, Director of the ISG Smart Card Centre at Royal Holloway, University of London, has completed a solo unsupported cycle ride between Land’s End and John O’Groats, covering more than 1,000 miles.
The trip was to raise money for Cancer Research UK; and Hungerford Round Table agreed to match the direct fundraising up to a further £2,000, and resulted in Dr Mayes raising a minimum of £4,000.
